Email Sending Issues (Resolved)
  • Priority - Critical
  • Affecting System - Email Server
  • After recent security changes to cPanel, some customers are reporting issues with sending emails through their mail programs (i.e. Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail, and others). Receiving mail is fine, but sending either throws and error or just sits in an "Out Box".

Well the fix is easy; your outgoing mail server port needs to be changed. Current outgoing ports used are: 25, 26, 465, 587 and 2525.
So, there are two ways you can fix this.

First way, you do what is called a Telnet to your domain name and a port number. You do a Telnet from the "Command Prompt" (black screen) on your PC. Go to "RUN and type in CMD then press enter. That will open the CP screen. Now type on the CP screen "Telnet YourDomainName.com ##" (exchange "YourDomainName.com" with your actual domain name and "##" with the port number you are testing.
If that returns an error, or just does nothing make not of it and do another Telnet to another port.
If you can connect you will get a "banner" starting with a code "220" on each line. It will read like the banner below:

    220-server.uswdh.com ESMTP Exim 4.89_1 #1 Sat, 20 Jan 2018 20:51:58 -0500
220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited,
    220 and/or bulk e-mail.

That port will work for you! While you are doing the telnet test all the mail ports and make notes on which fail or pass then you can use that information should you need it in the future.

Second way, less complicated, less information to use. In our second method of testing we simply edit the properties on the email account having issue, changing from the outgoing server port that is not working to the next one on the list above, once you get a port that sends you a banner with a 220 code as also shown above you too also now have a port that works.

IF YOU CAN NOT FIND A GOOD PORT - your IP may be blocked! go to http://whatsmyip.org and get your IP, write it down, now go to your USWDH client area and login. Once logged in go to the menu and use the drop-down under "Support" and select "UN-Lock My IP". That will return a listing of your domains being hosted, find the domain(s) in question and click on the hosting plan and wait for the response if you are blocked or not. If you are blocked simply un-block the IP and try to find a working port now. through either method above.

If you are still having an issue, send us a support ticked and we will be glad to assist you.

Scheduled Maintenance [Jan.19] (Resolved)
  • Priority - High
  • Affecting System - UPS - For Some Dedicated Server Customers

  • Selected Dedicated Servers,

We hope everything finds you well and appreciate your time spent reading this important message. During the week of January 7th, 2013 an alarm began to display on one of our UPS units in our Orlando, FL based Data Center. Power to your server, is provided through this UPS unit that now requires servicing. The alarm that is displayed tells us that the bypass controller, a key piece of the UPS’s operation, has failed and requires replacement. The bypass controller ensures that the UPS can automatically put itself into bypass mode, in case of any UPS malfunction, without manual intervention circumventing normal utility power to your server. To correct the deficiency, we must manually place the UPS unit into bypass mode to replace the controller card. Please see below the scheduled time and date to complete this maintenance:

    Scheduled Date and Time: January 19th, 2013 @ 23:00 (11 PM EST)

    Maintenance Window: 4 hours

    Datacenter Location: Orlando.DC2

    Estimated Downtime: None

While we do not anticipate any downtime during this maintenance, we will have a full team on standby in case any issues arise. Once the bypass controller is replaced, the system will be placed back into “Automatic” mode to handle bypasses as usual.

We appreciate your continued trust and loyalty to our company. We consider the continued proper operation of your service as our primary responsibility, which is why we have scheduled this maintenance. Please understand this proactive step is required to ensure proper interoperability of your service in the foreseeable future and we have taken every possible precaution to ensure this maintenance goes exactly as planned.

Thank you and have a wonderful day,

TIME WARNER ROUTER FAILURE (Resolved)
  • Priority - Critical
  • Affecting System - Routers/Switches

  • Today we had a router failure from our Time Warner hub (equipment we do not control). That failure caused our network switches to scramble for the redundant hub and all that we were told it it was too much for the back-up. So TW replaced and upgraded the outside hubs at that time we were then able to survey what we needed to replace and get back up as our switches took the brunt of the overload. It has been a few hours now since all sites went back up and all servers now appear to be settled in.

We have now also been able to bring our corporate server back up and things appear to be at 100%.

Of course Time Warner apologized for what it is worth. We will wade thru the mess and catch the bullet.

Our apologies for the event, further redundancy and stronger equipment is already in service.

PHP /Apache corruption after Cpanel update (Resolved)
  • Priority - Critical
  • We are still fixing the issues caused by the faulty Cpanel update done on 04/09/2011 . It appears to have ONLY effected the PHP based websites from the end-user point of view and some system services (Horde etc.) We are patching the Holes as they are uncovered and we have to be getting close to the end..

If anyone that is effected would rather we move their account to another server we can do that as well as long as the DNS can be changed (nameservers) your site can be back in service on another server in an hour or two providing propagation goes quickly.

Send us a ticket if this appeals to you. This request MUST be in the form of a support ticket.

THIS ISSUE ONLY EFFECTED SITES USING PHP. NO OTHER ISSUES WERE REPORTED FROM SITES THAT WERE NON-PHP DURING  AND AFTER THE COURSE OF THIS EVENT.

Maintenance Notice (Resolved)
  • Priority - Critical
  • USWDH Clients,

In an effort to continue offering the best level of service and uptime, we are making some necessary changes within our data center. We are proud to announce that we will be implementing a new server cooling method and also utilizing previously empty space within our data center. This implementation, however, requires movement of our current server grid layout and this will result in approximately less than 15 minutes of downtime for your server. Between the hours of 12:00am EDT (04:00 GMT) and 6:00am EDT (10:00 GMT) on Saturday, September 5, 2009 your server will be taken offline temporarily and moved within 50ft to it's new location and will be promptly placed back online. Please be aware that we will ensure your server boots and comes online properly and everything is in working order before we continue.

We understand the integrity of your data and we will handle your server with the best care possible. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. This move will have no effect in server settings or up-grades at this time, It will simply be a matter of shutting down the server, movin it and bringing it back up online again in its new location. Again downtime shoulsd be 15 minutes or less.

    Thank you,

    USWDH Tech Support
    Administration.
